The Ultimate Matcha Tool Guide

Making matcha at home? Love it!

Whether you’re going for a fluffy green latte or want to upgrade your me-time, the right tools will make it more fun (and tastier).

Here’s the ultimate matcha guide to walk you through it!

What is matcha?

Matcha isn’t just green tea, it’s a fine green powder made from special Japanese tea leaves.

Instead of steeping loose leaves in water, you mix the powder with hot water or warm milk, so you’re drinking the entire leaf. 💚 That means you get every single benefit from the tea, like antioxidants and a gentle hit of caffeine for a longer-lasting energy boost.

Our Japanese matcha has a rich umami flavor and is super versatile: perfect for warm lattes, iced lattes, or even cooking and baking.

Our matcha is not ceremonial, and that’s intentional.

Ceremonial-grade matcha is of the highest quality and is meant to be enjoyed solely with water so you can really taste the refined umami flavor. Once you add milk, some of that delicate flavor is lost.

Our organic barista-grade matcha is specially selected for its full and robust flavor, exactly what you want in a matcha latte. You get the best flavor balance when you combine it with milk, either hot or iced.

Why our matcha will become your daily favorite:

💚 100% organic Japanese matcha powder
💚 Up to 36 lattes per pack for lots of matcha fun
💚 No added sugars, so you decide how sweet you make it
💚 Naturally rich in caffeine for a gentle, long-lasting energy boost
💚 Delicious with plant-based or regular milk
💚 Also perfect for cooking and baking

In other words: a matcha a day, in your own way.

Meet your matcha tools

Time to get started! You’ll need a few handy tools to make the perfect latte or frothy matcha.

Meet the crew!

🌀 Chasen (bamboo whisk)

The star of the show. This handmade whisk gives you a smooth, frothy finish. No clumps, no drama.

🥄 Chashaku (bamboo scoop)

Small, elegant and just the right size for measuring your matcha powder. Cute and functional.

🥣 Chawan (matcha bowl)

Big enough to whisk in, stylish enough to drink from. Your BFF for your matcha moment.

🔄 Chasen holder

Think of it as a little spa for your whisk. It keeps your chasen nicely shaped and lets it dry properly.

✨ Fine mesh sifter

Extra? Maybe. But if you want velvety matcha without clumps, this is your secret weapon.

Matcha time: Let’s put the tools to work!

Making the perfect matcha requires some preparation. Don’t worry, we’ll walk you through it step by step!

STEP 1: Bloom Your Whisk (Chasen)

Start by blooming your chasen. Place your whisk in warm (not boiling) water for about two minutes to soften the bamboo tines. This prevents them from breaking and helps create a nice foam later. Then, let the chasen rest on your whisk holder until you need it.

STEP 2: Prepare the Matcha

Heat some water to about 70°C or 158°F. Scoop about two grams (about 1-2 chashaku spoons) of matcha into your chawan (matcha bowl) and sift the powder to prevent clumps. This gives you an extra smooth and creamy result.

STEP 3: Create the perfect base

Sift your matcha to get rid of any clumps and to obtain an extra smooth and creamy result. Next, add a small amount of hot water (about 60-70 milliliters, 70°C or 158°F) to your sifted matcha.

STEP 4: Whisk

Take your chasen and firmly whisk the matcha in a W or M motion to create a frothy foam. Hold your whisk slightly above the bottom of the bowl to prevent damaging the bamboo tines. Start slowly, increase your speed and finish with a few small circles to smooth out the foam. Try to whisk using your wrist, rather than your entire arm.

STEP 5: Almost ready

Pour your matcha over warm milk for a creamy latte or over cold milk with ice for a refreshing iced matcha.

Enjoy!

Take care of your tools 💚

Your matcha tools deserve a little bit of love, so they will last a long time and always provide the best results. Here are a few simple guidelines to take care of your matcha tools:

👉 Chasen (Bamboo Whisk) Cleaning

  • Rinse your whisk for a few seconds under warm water immediately after use to remove all matcha residue.
  • Never use soap and don’t put it in the dishwasher as that can damage the bamboo.
  • Dry your chasen thoroughly. It is best to put it on a chasen holder, that way it maintains its beautiful shape. You don’t have a holder? Turn it upside down and let it dry on its handle. Make sure there isn’t any water left in the handle, otherwise mold may form.

👉 Chashaku (Matcha Spoon)

  • Rinse your spoon for a few seconds under warm water immediately after use to remove all matcha residue.
  • Never use soap and don’t put it in the dishwasher as that can damage the bamboo..

👉 Chasen Holder

  • Keep the holder dry so the whisk will maintain its shape and doesn’t start molding.

👉 Chawan (Matcha Bowl)

  • Always wash your bowl by hand, that way it will last longer.

Here are some tips 💡

  • Mix it up: warm or iced, with regular or plant-based milk, mix and match just the way you like it.
  • Fluff it up: experiment with your chasen movements or try different kinds of milk for the perfect fluffy topping.
  • Combine flavors: a touch of vanilla, cinnamon or cocoa powder adds a surprising twist to your matcha.
  • Use it in dishes: matcha is not only delicious in your favorite drink! Add it to your yoghurt, smoothies, oatmeal or use it in your baking recipes for a green boost.

Ready to enjoy!
